Dev Blog #6

Welcome back, Commander. Let’s get into what we’ve done over the weekend.

COSTUMES AND CLOTHING ITEMS

It actually took less time to develop the costume system than expected. I thought it will take around a week to design, code it and implement it properly into Nomad. Turns out it only took around 24 hours (to be fair, I did put around 16 hours into the clothing system about a week ago). So 2 days development time. Though bare in mind this is at a very basic prototype stage.

These skins will vary between survivor-like clothes, casual clothes, bandit clothes, military clothes to sci-fi clothes. We have a lot planned for the clothes system.

Georgina has been busy working on some clothes.

Woodland Camo Military

Phantom Nanosuit. Equipping this will grant players 4x jump height, 1.5x run speed and a greater fall damage threshold.

Pirate Costume

Casual 2 Clothes

Some of the clothes or “costumes” will be craftable within game. You’ll have to find most of them though.

You can even drop your current clothes, for nakedness.

NOMAD’S CORE

So you probably heard me saying “I want to get the core done before doing anything cool”, well the core is almost finished. Clothes, weapons, loot, basic crafting is all finished. What’s left to do in the “core” is the building and bag pack system. Once those are done, we’re looking at a early pre-alpha test for everyone to play with.

I can’t be certain when the pre-alpha test will be, but we’re close. I’m looking to add more costumes, weapons and general loot before the test though. All I’m saying is that the systems are in place.

ENEMY SHIPS

The enemy has fighter ships that will fly around in the air. You can shoot these down, but you will need a powerful gun. This is the first rendition of one of the ships.

Even after the first initial alien invasion, the skies will be patrolled. These ships, among others will help patrol the skies. Keep out of sight and stay alive!

BUG FIXES

Guns will no longer play the dry fire or reloading sound effect when selecting a weapon to other players.

Take in animations are now fixed. They will no longer bug out the first time picking up an item.

All birds now have separate random speed values, adding a little more realism to them.

That’s it for today’s update. Remember you can follow the development of Nomad on our Twitch channel. We openly listen to suggestions and feedback and we even add your items in!
